Hi, I’m Mehran Karim. Growing up in the tranquil, rural town of Haddam, Connecticut, I nurtured a dream woven with the threads of business, sports, and a profound desire to make a difference. This dream took root in a love for my homeland, Afghanistan, and its golden treasure—saffron.
But why stop at good, when you can have extraordinary?
We’re not just selling saffron. We are reviving an age-old tradition with the highest purity, quality, and ethical sourcing standards. Our saffron doesn’t just elevate dishes; it uplifts communities, empowering the hardworking women of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector.
Saffron is a spice derived from the flower of Crocus sativus, commonly known as the “saffron crocus.” The vibrant red stigmas and styles, known as threads, are carefully harvested and dried to create the saffron spice. Cultivating saffron is labor-intensive, as each flower only produces a small amount of saffron. It takes about 75,000 flowers to produce a single pound of saffron. Known for its distinct flavor, aroma, and color, saffron is used in a variety of dishes, from savory paellas and risottos to sweet desserts. Additionally, saffron is prized for its potential health benefits, including its antioxidant properties and its ability to improve mood and memory.
Negin saffron is the highest quality saffron, distinguished by its long, thick threads and deep red color. Unlike lower grades, Negin saffron is meticulously harvested and dried to preserve its potent aroma, flavor, and color. Unfortunately, some brands dye their saffron to make it appear more red, compromising its purity and quality. At Golden Eagle Botanics, we ensure our saffron meets the highest standards. Our saffron is certified pure and is ethically sourced from the sunlit fields of Herat, Afghanistan. You can trust that our saffron is free from additives and dyes, providing you with an authentic and premium spice.
The saffron you find in typical grocery stores is often of lower quality and overpriced due to the numerous middlemen involved in the supply chain. At Golden Eagle Botanics, we eliminate these middlemen by sourcing directly from the farmers in Afghanistan, where much of my family still resides. This direct relationship allows us to maintain higher standards for quality while keeping our prices competitive. By choosing Golden Eagle Botanics, you’re not only getting superior saffron but also supporting the hardworking women of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector.
